How long does a therapy session take? How often do you see your clients?

My sessions with individuals last 50 minutes. I see people anywhere from once a week to three times a week depending on their personal needs and desires.

Do you use Freudian or Jungian analysis techniques?

My psychoanalytic approach is a contemporary one--for example not everything is about the Oedipus Complex. However, like Freud, I believe in a depth model which means that my work with individuals centers on uncovering the origins and meaning beneath patterns and repetitions and on creating a window onto new thinking, feeling, and resilience in their every day lives.

Do you take insurance?

One of the first questions many people ask is whether I accept their insurance.  I do not accept third-party payment for services.  I do this for several reasons: when you pay me directly, I work only for you or your child.

Insurance can have a negative impact on a therapeutic relationship in several ways. Insurance requires:

  • A mandatory diagnosis of a mental condition

  • A standardized treatment plan according to insurance guidelines

  • Written records of our sessions that are open to an “audit” and review by insurance personnel. Because much of my work focuses around particularly sensitive issues regarding everything from trauma from the past to sexual impulsivity, I prefer that stay in the therapeutic context instead of in the hands of an auditor.

** It is important to check with your employer about your Flex Benefits Plan because psychoanalysis is often covered.**

How much does it cost?

After our initial consultation, we’ll discuss fees and determine a mutually agreeable solution.  This is based on several factors, including how many times per week or month you’d like to come and your current financial situation.  Fees are discussed periodically as these factors change.
